Day 28 - September 17
We didn’t get on the road until about 10:30 a.m. and then still had to fuel up. We did that in Port Townsend. We really only intended to drive for a couple of hours, but we couldn’t find anywhere good to stop. For the first portion of the trip we were on the east side of Olympic National Park. The last time we were here in 2014 we did the west side. Then we thought we would stop in Aberdeen, Washington, but is did not seem to have a good waterfront and we drove through a major homeless encampment which was completely depressing. We decided to keep driving until Oregon and then stopped just south of Astoria which is at the mouth of the Columbia River. There are 2 huge bridges you drive over to cross the river. We stayed at an RV Park where they were not particularly friendly, but it was very neat and it was almost the end of the day, so we weren’t going to do anything anyways. It was also a golf course, but as luck would have it, it was temporarily closed for re-seeding. We had supper, watched a Netflix film called Against the Ice about Danish explorers in Greenland, and went to bed.
