Day 37 - September 26

This morning we left our very lovely park in St. George to drive to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.  The scenery on the drive was really nice.  There are lots of trees here and the grass and other vegetation is green.  It is just the end of the monsoon season here and they had some really good rain in this part of Utah and Arizona.  We keep crossing into Arizona.  We did at the Hoover Dam, we did on our drive to St. George which is in Utah and we left Utah for Arizona on the way to the Grand Canyon.  We drove through an active forest fire about 1 hour from the rim.  It was very smokey.  We had lunch sitting on rocks at the rim of the canyon.  It was amazing to be here.  We then went to the Lodge where the views are breathtaking.  We also did some hiking, one hike to Bright Angel Point and one on the Transept Trail.  On the Angel Point trail we met a club of rock climbers from Pheonix, Arizona who volunteer their time to rapel the cliffs to pick up litter.  We talked to the man who organized these events.  He was really friendly and told and showed us some of the points of interest, like the South Rim Visitor Centre, the Roaring Springs where the drinking water comes from for the whole Grand Canyon and other things.  We had a really nice day there.  We then had to drive about 1 hour to our campsite in Kaibob Village Campground.  It is in the Kaibob National Forest.  Very nice. It is only about 5 miles from the forest fire which we had to drive through again on the way out. It seemed a fair bit worse at the end of the day.  They are not putting it out but just monitoring it.  We decided to stay here for 2 nights and we can bike on lots of forest roads tomorrow.  We are also very tired of picking up and travelling every day.
