Day 31 - September 20

This morning we were on the road at about 9:30.  We made our first stop for coffee at a spot where about 6 guys were surfing.  It was really neat to watch.  The waves have been huge every day since we’ve been on the coast.  I don’t know if it’s always like this, but it seems to be a wild ocean.  We stopped for groceries and gas at Fred Meyer’s in Florence, OR.  It is a store like Walmart where you can buy groceries but also household items, clothing, furniture, jewelry, etc.  We arrived at Bullard State Park at about 2 p.m.  We have hydro and water here which is quite unusual in a state park.  It is also all paved and each site has a paved spot for your vehicle/trailer.  We hiked to the beach which was about 1 ¼ miles and then hiked for a long way down the beach and back again. We saw lots of really big jellyfish and the carcass of a sea lion that had about 6 vultures on it.

Then we made supper and after supper, we got the bikes out and biked to the end of the park where there is a lighthouse that was built 1896.  It is located where the Coquille River meets the ocean as the town has its harbour in the river.

It started raining on our way back.  It’s really the first rain we’ve had since Lethbridge, AB.  It is really needed, not here as much as on Vancouver Island, but it’s pretty dry here too.
