Day 27 - September 16

Last night after getting off the ferry, we went through a very easy customs again, just a guy standing on the tarmac.  We had to give him our eggs as they are worried about avian flu right now.  He says that it changes day to day what you can and cannot bring into the U.S., so it's hard to get it right.  We slept in the Walmart parking lot in Port Angeles.  We had a really good sleep.  In the morning we left for Port Townsend.  This town has a lot of wooden boat builders and we watch a few You Tubers who are building or restoring wooden boats here.  We toured the North West Maritime Centre and got to see some of the projects they are currently working on.  So neat as we have seen this place on You Tube many times.  Last weekend it was the Wooden Boat Festival so we just missed that which is probably for the best as we would never have been able to find a spot here.  We are camped right beside the ocean and there are currently only about 6 other campers.  We walked up and down the main street and had lunch in a small cafe.  The we toured the Port Townsend Boat Works and Marina where another You Tuber, Leo is building a wooden boat Tallyho that we have followed for a couple of years now.  We did see, Pete, one guy who works on his boat, but no one else and the boat shed door was closed so no glimpses of Tallyho.  It was just really neat to be here, though and it was a busy spot with boats being lifted out and put in and lots of boats being restored.

We went to our campground for coffee in the afternoon and we read, walked along the beach, and watched boat traffic for the rest of the day.  After supper, we went to the local high school football game which was just 2 blocks from our campground.  They were playing the Whidby Island Falcons.  Whidby Island is in our view from the campground and a ferry runs back and forth all day to the island.  There is an air force base there and 65,000 residents which are way more than living

here in Port Townsend.  Needless to say, the Jefferson Rivals (the Port Townsend team) didn't stand a chance.  We left with 5 minutes to play and the score 54 to 16 with the Falcons threatening to score again.  It was fun being a part of a well-attended community event.
