Day 25 - September 14
Today we had breakfast, did our van chores, had coffee, and then started biking on the E & N Railtrail into downtown Victoria. We locked up our bikes at the tourist information centre right near the Empress Hotel. We looked around at the waterfront and then went to visit the Royal BC Museum. Only the 2nd floor is currently open which is the Natural History Museum and an exhibit about the Internment of the Japanese during the 2nd World War. Both areas were really interesting. It started out fairly cool this morning, but by lunchtime, the sun was starting to come out and things were warming up. We went for lunch at the waterfront. The city seems to be filled with dutch tourists right now. I think there is a least a busload of them. Here in our campground, we've also heard dutch being spoken quite a bit. I don't know what's going on. The rest of the afternoon we spent biking around the greater Victoria area. We saw mile '0' of the Trans Canada Highway and there was a memorial to Terry Fox there. We did a short piece of the Galloping Goose Trail and then joined back up to the E & N Railtrail. We got back to the campground around 5 p.m. We have a reservation on the Black Ball Ferry that goes to Port Angeles, Washington at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow.
