Day 21 - September 10
We had a great sleep. It was very cold through the night. I woke at 3 a.m. and the tide was high and the moon was full. So beautiful! In the morning we had a great breakfast and then we rented stand-up paddle boards for the day. We paddled along the edge of the bay and made it to the point. We spent some time there swimming and exploring. Pete found a folding camp chair and about 50 feet of rope. (We donated these items to the 'trading table' at the campground.) We saw a big fishing buoy floating into the bay which I caught and tied to my SUP. It was really slowing me down, so I let it go again, but someone picked it up at the beach. There were salmon jumping in the bay and we also saw a seal. We had some lunch and then spent some time reading and relaxing. Pete and I went out on the SUPs again to try standing up on them. We hadn't dared in the morning. We successfully made it out into the bay and back again on our feet. I did fall off once but got back on without any trouble. We were still really sore from our big hike up Mount Becher, so we decided against the hike and camp on the beach. The campground was so beautiful, there was no need to travel further. After supper, I walked to the dumpster to get rid of some garbage and on my way back a man said to me 'bear'. I looked just to my right and there was a bear walking toward me. I moved along and got Pete so he could see it too, but it had disappeared into the bush. Some other campers started their car alarm to scare it off. We played some Yahtzee before bed and that was another day.
