Day 20 - September 9
Today we are leaving for Banfield on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. Megin has to work this morning, so we did preparations for our trip. We fried a bunch of hamburger, made some guacamole, chopped some cabbage, grated some carrots and packed some other food. As soon as Megin gets home we will be off! We are planning to camp tonight in a campground at Pachena Bay and then hike to the coast and camp on the beach on Saturday night. Should be interesting! You first go to Port Alberni and then it is a logging road all the way. It was 91 km long and excruciating! So washboarded, dusty and bumpy. The clouds of dust would hang in the air behind every vehicle. We met 2 loaded logging trucks and lots of loggers leaving for the weekend. We could only drive about 50 km per hour most of the way. The campsite was absolutely amazing. Right on the beach of the Pacific Ocean. We got there around 6 p.m., made supper, went for a walk on the beach, saw a bear on the river that empties into the Bay, and then went to bed.
