Day 19 - September 8

Today was a big day!  Peter, Pete and I drove up the Forbidden Parkway to the top.  We had our coffee there and started our hike at 11:00 a.m.  We hiked up Mount Wood, Mount Becher and the Boston Ridge back to the parking area.  It was predicted that the hike would take about 4 1/2 hours, but it took us 6 hours!  It was almost 15 km with over 1,000 metres of ascent and descent.  The view from the top of Mount Becher was amazing.  We could see the Comox glacier and many other peaks with snow on them. We also fed Gray Jays right from our hands.  They are sweet birds that are now our national bird.  It felt like a real accomplishment, but it was very difficult. Pete really started to suffer on the final descent with his knees and then his hip really started hurting.  We were really thankful to see the van again.  We hadn't brought enough water with us which was unfortunate, but we didn't suffer from thirst too much.  When we got home we quickly showered and got ready to go to Peter's bosses' house for dinner.  They are Paul and Salinas and their son Bodie.  We had a really nice time with them.  She right away set up a heat light for Pete's knee and gave him Epsom salt cream.  She loves looking after people and was super kind.  Pete was already feeling quite a bit better when we left there.

Needless to say, we had a great sleep.
