Day 15 - September 4

 This morning we got up and got ready for church.  We decided to go to Cumberland Community Church.  It rained a little bit overnight and very lightly just before we left for church, but we decided to chance the bikes for going to church.  It started at 10:30 a.m.  Peter and Megin are doing their own thing today.  We had the warmest welcome at church.  Everyone was so friendly.  The service was wonderful.  Great praise team of old hippies.  Haha.  We stayed for coffee after church and basically just had a great time.  We met a couple who were from Quebec but have retired here in Cumberland and they really want a Roadtrek van too.  They insisted on having our email so we could stay in touch.  After church we had lunch and read for a while.  Then we biked to the cute little ice cream place in Cumberland that serves out of a converted boler trailer and have nice little tables and chairs surrounding it.  The ice cream is delicious.  Then we walked up and down the lovely main street.  In the afternoon Peter and Megin came for happy hour and we played a card game they have.  We just ate enough snacks to ruin our supper and that was the end of another day!

Day 7 - August 27

  We left Assinaboia at 8:30 a.m.  The time is now 2 hours different from home, so each day we can drive a little longer, but struggle more to stay up late enough at night and getting up in the morning is harder.  We drove all day again on Highway 3 instead of the Trans Canada for part of the day.  We stopped for morning coffee on a gravel range road that had it’s bridge washed out and we were completely surrounded by wheat fields.  It was so nice.  Eventually we made it back onto the TransCanada and stopped for lunch at the Alberta border.  The land almost immediately starts to look different.  More cattle country and if there are crops they are irrigated.  We arrived in Lethbridge around 3 or 3:30.  We had bought tickets for the Pro Rodeo in Lethbridge on our drive which also included the fair called Whoop-Up Days.  It was fun to spend time there.  We also went back to the van for a nap before the rodeo which started at 7:00 ...

Day 41 - September 30

  Today we had a really relaxing day.  The nights here are really cold, but we sat outside for breakfast in the sun and the day really warmed up.  We read until coffee time, and then went for a bike ride first to the boat launch ramp and then to the dam.  First we just went on the road and we returned on the trail.  It was really fun.  After lunch, we went out again on our bikes.  We again biked to the dam on the trails both ways and then went further on the trail to the other end of the park.  This time we remembered a camera so we got some pictures.  When we returned it was happy hour.  More reading and relaxing until supper time and another day is over.  Tomorrow we will continue our way east.  We are staying south as much as possible to keep good weather.

Day 39 - September 28

  This morning we left the Kaibob RV Park at around 9:30 a.m. and headed to Zion National Park in Utah.  The lineup was so long to get into this park we decided to turn around and go back a few kilometres and then go to Page, AZ which is on Lake Powell.  We stopped at Kanob on the way and got new windshield wipers for the van and got some more American cash from the bank.  It did rain some on our way to Page.   Lake Powell only has about 26% of the capacity of water in it.  Many of the boat launch ramps can’t be used anymore.  The people here do not seem to be concerned enough about this problem.  There is so much building going on everywhere we go.  People still have green lawns at the houses and the public spaces like schools and parks have green grass.  This is fully in the dessert.  It doesn’t make sense.  We went to a very nice view point which showed Lake Powell and the surrounding area.  The gorge here is super deep...
