Day 12 - September 1
We woke up around 8 a.m. in the Cumberland Lake Campground. We had a good sleep. It was very quiet there. We had breakfast, packed up, and headed into town to find a laundromat and a car wash. We only found a car wash where we cleaned off all the road grime of 11 days of travel. There were so many bugs that lost their lives on our front bumper! Things looked a lot better after that. We were literally only 1 block from Peter and Megin then. That was our next stop. We are going to sleep there in the van from now on. We got situated on their lot and met all their roommates/neighbours. They are all so lovely and friendly. We met Drew (Willem’s wife) from 2 doors down. We toured Peter and Megin’s house which they share with 2 sisters, Roots and Larissa, and Peter’s work studio. All very nice. Pete and Peter then fixed a flat tire on his bicycle and then we had coffee on the deck. After that we went to Courtenay to see Peter’s workplace at Blue Toque and met some of his co-workers and his boss. We then walked the main street and went for lunch ‘Yellow Deli’ a restaurant run by people in the 12 tribes sect as known as The Vine Community Church. They are a Christian sect based on an attempt re-create the 1st century church as described in Acts. Further reading on this subject can be done in Wikipedia. Very good food in a very quaint atmosphere.
Then we worked through the forest where Megin does her Forest School. That was also really nice to see. After that, we went swimming in the ocean at a small park near the ferry terminal. Super refreshing. On the way home again we stopped to play 9 holes of Disc/Frisbee Golf. That was more challenging than it sounds, but quite fun.
I also did 2 loads of laundry at Peter and Megin’s and dried them on the line. So nice to have everything clean again.
Now we are having a drink/snack and then we are going to a house to listen to a free latin music concert. Should be fun.
